The value of regular attendance

Statistics show that good attendance and punctuality at school are directly linked to pupils making good progress both socially and academically. We are constantly striving to acheive 100% attendance for all children.

Absence from school

The Government recommends that family holidays are taken outside school terms.  Headteachers can only give permission for a pupil to go on a family holiday during term time in exceptional circumstances.  The headteacher and the governing body will consider the request and only authorise the absence in unavoidably exceptional circumstances. Reasons for the holiday, the pupil’s past attendance, and the effect the absence will have on the pupil’s learning will be considered.  The headteacher will not give permission simply because holidays cost less during term time.

We publish the dates of school terms well ahead.  This is to help you plan your holidays.  When you book your holiday, please check that it does not clash with the school term.

Your legal responsibilities

You have a legal duty to make sure your child attends school regularly and punctually.  The school and the local education authority monitor your child’s attendance and will take action if it is poor.
